History of the Program
The Postgraduate Program in Philosophy (PPGFil) at UFG offers master's and PhD courses in Philosophy.
The master's degree course was created in 1993, and until 1999 (with the emergence of the master's degree in UnB) was the only Graduate Program in Philosophy of the entire Central-West region of the country. In its initial period (from 1994 to 2001), the only area of concentration of the program was in Political Philosophy, but later it was redefined for "Philosophy", with three lines of research: Ethics and Political Philosophy; Philosophy of Language and Knowledge; Classics of Modern and Contemporary Philosophy. Recently, there were reformulations in this composition, so that the current lines of research began to embrace: Ethics and Political Philosophy; Logic and Philosophy of Language, Metaphysics and Theory of Knowledge; Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art.
With a staff of qualified professors and in progressive expansion, significant academic production of teaching and learning, the program has received very positive evaluations of Capes. In the triennial evaluation of 2010, referring to the period 2007-2009, the program received grade 4, which reflected a consistent period of consolidation and opened the possibility of expanding the program towards the doctorate course, which was created in April 2013. Several doctoral selections have been held since then, and the first thesis defense of the program took place in August 2017.
